Alvida old school

He was sitting by the window. It was not an unfamiliar scene to watch him there, but there was something different about him that day. Usually he would play with his buddies in the evening. It was drizzling that day. As the moist breeze of monsoon brushed his cheeks, he felt cold.

His Papa had given him news, which he didn’t know how to take in. They were shifting, which meant he had to join a new school starting that year. He didn’t know why but he felt cheated. Pictures of having lunch under the tree with friends started to fly in his imaginations. His friends; he was not going to meet them again. What about Satish? He jumped out of the bed and drew an old box from under the bed. He found a New Year card. It was from Satish. The first card ever, Satish had sketched a flower for him and pasted coloured chips on the borders too.  He knew he hadn’t given anything in return but a smile to him.

His heart was growing heavy. He didn’t know who to speak to. He looked around the house, Maa, Papa, everybody seemed so different. It was strange, he never realised how similar he and his friends were. And the school, he didn’t know whether they will have big play ground nearby. It was, for the first time he felt like he gained sense and regretted at the same time. There was so much about that place and those people that he never could find out. It was so simple that way.

Maa called from the kitchen. Hot pakodas were ready. Yeah he was hungry. He leapt into a handful. For, what seemed like a 15 minutes, he was glad it were monsoon and pakodas together.
